LMRF attends CAMTECH-INDIA Clinical Summit & Jugaad-a-thon

CAMTECH India organized Jugaad-a-thon from 27th to 28th June at the GE John F. Welch Technology Center, Bangalore, India. The CAMTECH Jugaad-a-thon brought together some of the world’s brightest minds to develop innovative and affordable health technologies that could help save the lives of women and children across India. Through an open innovative platform, clinicians, engineers, entrepreneurs and end-users co-created solutions to identify and pressing clinical challenges. In 48 hours, teams moved from ideas to prototypes with early business models that have the potential to transform reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health outcomes in India and around the world.

Lata Medical Research Foundation presented two new innovative medical devices for Maternal and Newborn Health –NEARSENSE for monitoring vitals in Newborn and improved design of female condom.

Dr.Majushree Waikar from LMRF received CAMTECH prize for improved design of female condom. These programs were attended by Dr. Archana Patel, Dr. Prabir Das, Dr. Manjushree Waiker, Ms. Amrita Puranik and Mrs. Kunda Shende – Takalghat ASHA worker.

Clean Cooking and Child Survival Workshop

Dr. Archana Patel participated in a two day research workshop focused on Clean Cooking and Child Survival organized by Global Alliance for Clean Cook stoves, along with George Washington University, the Nepal Nutrition Intervention Project – Sarlahi, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on 28th – 29th March 2015 in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

The purpose of the workshop was to convene researchers currently conducting randomized control trials focused on the link between exposure to household air pollution and child survival. This meeting provided an opportunity for researchers to share lessons from the field, present preliminary results, and discuss learning from their experience. Specific topics addressed includes: Exposure Assessment, Challenges with outcome assessments in field settings, dealing with co-variates, and data analysis.

The workshop was attended by the researchers from ongoing Alliance-funded studies on clean cooking and child survival in Ghana, Nepal, and Nigeria and also invited are colleagues working in Malawi, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, and India.

LMRF conducts Lead Awareness Campaign.
Background:

Acute and chronic lead poisoning is a global problem of enormous importance for child health and development. Lead has no essential role in the human body and lead poisoning accounts for about 0.6% of the global burden of the diseases. Lead poisoning is entirely preventable.

Objective:

The objective of this campaign was to create the awareness for lead poisoning in children who are directly or indirectly exposed to Lead poisoning.

Lata Medical Research Foundation, Nagpur celebrated “International lead poisoning prevention week of action 19th -26 October 2014”.

This campaign was marked by several events and activities which includes:

  • Press conference with all the leading news papers at Nagpur
  • Awareness activities in schools
  • Lead awareness symposium in association with Dept. of Community Medicine Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC), Nagpur.

Lata Medical Research Foundation attended the 4th Annual Regional Meeting of South Asian Infant Feeding Research Network (SAIFRN) held at SAIFRN, Islamabad, Pakistan as part of AusAID’s Public Sector Linkages Programme). The meeting was held from 6th to 12th April 2014.

LMRF attends CAMTech India Jugaad-a-thon

The CAMTech India Jugaad-a-thon is organized to bring together some of the world’s brightest minds to develop innovative health technologies. Clinicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, designers and end-users co-create to solve pressing clinical challenges in India and have the potential to transform reproductive, maternal, newborn & child health outcomes in India and around the world.
This conference was held from 17th – 20th July 2014.

‘The Clinical Summit’ entailed sharing the lesson’s learnt, challenges faced and successes and failures of deploying a mobile phone health intervention, also, this session shed light on the ‘End user feedback’; their opinions.

LMRF was represented by Ms. Amrita Puranik and our FLW Mrs. Pragati Rahate, who was a part of this Clinical Summit.
